Recipients for funds raised by the Brotherhood will be selected based on need and voted on by the Philanthropy Committee.
Funds raised by Philanthropy projects may not be used by the Chapter.
Committee members are expected to be present at all the committee’s events.
The Brotherhood must be made aware of the dates of committee hosted events no later than two weeks prior to the event.
Examples of major projects that can be coordinated by the Philanthropy Committee are as follows:

Spaghetti Dinner is usually held during the spring semester.
Can Drive is organized in both the fall and spring semesters.
Section 2. Scholarship
The Committee shall advertise the John MacInnes Scholarship during the Spring Semester.
The committee shall set dates and times for the opening and closing dates for applications.
The Committee Chair(s) shall meet with the Michigan Technological University Administration prior to advertising.
The Chair requests to check the scholarship account to confirm the amount.
After the closing date for applications for the scholarship, the Philanthropy Committee as a whole shall select a recipient by means of a vote through a method at the discretion of the Philanthropy Committee.
Some methods for voting for a recipient in years past are as follows and described:
Simple Majority
Each member of the committee receives a vote to place for one applicant. The applicants with the least votes are not recipients. Repeated until the committee reaches one applicant.
Ranked Voting
Each member of the committee evaluates the responses of the applicants on a scale from 1 to 5. Discussion then follows for the committee during the process of the applicant evaluation, finalizing a selection for a recipient.
The Chapter President shall provide the tie breaking vote in the event of a tie.
All scholarship applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:
Cannot be on academic probation.
Must be an active member of a musical ensemble at Michigan Technological University, and intend on being part of that ensemble the following semester.
Cannot be a Brother of Mu Beta Psi, Zeta Chapter.
The Committee Chairs must email finaid@mtu.edu with the name and M-number of that year’s recipient prior to the end of the Spring semester.
The Scholarship recipient shall be announced by their last concert of the Spring Semester.
In the event that the announcement at the recipient’s last concert in the Spring Semester is not possible, then the announcement should be scheduled to be during a rehearsal.
