Hazing Guidelines

These guidelines are intended to apply to all levels of membership in the organization in accordance with the Fraternal Life and Conduct policy. Each Chapter and all members are expected to comply with these guidelines in situations in which the university policies are less restrictive.

No Chapter, member, colonist, student or alumnus shall conduct, participate in nor condone hazing activities. Permission or approval by a person being hazed is not a defense.

1. Any action taken or situation created, intentionally, whether on or off fraternity premises, to produce mental or physical discomfort, embarrassment, harassment, or ridicule, regardless of willingness to participate. Such activities may include but are not limited to the following:

   1. Use of alcohol, paddling in any form, creation of excessive fatigue, physical and psychological shocks, or any other such activities carried on outside or inside of the confines of the Chapter house
   2. Wearing of public apparel which is conspicuous and not normally in good taste, engaging in public stunts and buffoonery, morally degrading or humiliating games and activities
   3. Any other activities which are not consistent with academic achievement, fraternal law, ritual or policy, or the regulations and policies of the educational institution or applicable state law

These guidelines shall be revised as necessary by the National Committee on Chapter Maintenance with oversight from the Risk Management Advisor of the Board of Trustees, and approved by a two-thirds (⅔) vote of the National Executive Committee within thirty (30) days of the receipt of the revision.
