Brotherhood Standards Policy

Section 1: Mandatory Events

  1. Every Brother must be in Attendance at Sunday meetings, unless they have contacted the President prior to the meeting.
  2. Committee meetings for the committees they have signed up for.
  3. All service events labeled mandatory by the Service Chair.
  4. All Recruitment events such as Rush Week and Monthly Recruitment Events
  5. All Fundraisers
  6. Retreat
  7. In any case where a Brother cannot attend any of the above events they must notify the person running the events, giving at least 48 hours’ notice or the deadline which is set by the person running the event.
    1. Reasonable excuses with proper notice will not be penalized.
    2. Unreasonable excuses, no call/no show, and repeated offenses will be penalized and can lead to active status being put up for review by the Executive Committee.

Section 2: Meeting Etiquette

  1. Brothers should talk loud enough to be heard by everyone at all meetings and should not speak out of turn.
  2. All Brothers should have something to take notes with that are not electronic devices.
    1. Brothers should only be using cell phones and/or laptops if they are presenting something or if their position requires communication with someone outside the room.
    2. In all cases, all electronic devices should still be used sparingly and put away when not in use.
  3. Brothers should give the speaker their full attention at all times no matter what the topic of conversation may be.
  4. If a Brother has any Business to discuss they should come prepared with what they want to talk about as well as come early to set up anything they may need for their discussion.
    1. If a Brother has something to present, they will send it to the Brotherhood 3 days prior to the meeting and all Brothers will be required to review these materials before the meeting.
  5. In order to avoid circle talking, everyone should pay attention at all times and use snaps when they agree with what is being said.

Section 3: Response to Emails and Surveys

  1. Information gained from surveys and email responses play a vital part to the functioning of Fraternity meetings.
  2. If a Brother fails to respond to three (3) surveys, the Brother will be fined five dollars ($5).
    1. If a Brother continues to not respond to surveys they will be fined another two dollars ($2) for each survey they do not respond to.
  3. It is the responsibility of the officer sending out a survey or email, which requires a response, to notify the Vice President if a Brother that does not respond by the deadline.
    1. Non-responses will be kept track of on a semester basis.

Section 4: Public Representation

  1. While wearing Letters, Brothers should be aware that they are not only representing Pi Chapter, but also the national organization as a whole.
  2. Any Brother who is over 21 may drink in Letters as long as they are doing so responsibly.
  3. Brothers shall not engage in speaking of or partaking in activities involving illegal substances while in Letters.
  4. A Brother can express grievances about an individual while in Letters, however the conversation shall not be rude or disrespectful in any way, especially if it involves member of the Fraternity or any member of the Musical Communities at Rutgers and the surrounding area.
  5. Any Brother partaking in the activities as stated in 2, 3, and 4 irresponsibly may have their active status put up for review by the Executive Board.
