Nu Chapter Service Policy

Section 1: Definition of Service
  1. Service activity will be defined as:
    1. Any activity which benefits the musical organizations at SUNY Oswego.
    2. Any activity which benefits a specific faculty member.
    3. Any activity which benefits the greater college community.
  2. The following activities will not fulfill the service requirement:
    1. Any activity that fulfills membership requirements other than the service requirement.
    2. Any activity that is required for a class or ensemble.
Section 2: Service Points
  1. Service points will be rewarded by the Service Coordinator after completing service activities.
  2. Each Brother is required to complete a minimum of 600 service points
  3. Service activities will be submitted to the Service Coordinator through an online form within 1 week of the service events.
  4. Each activity will accrue a certain number of points;
    1. Ushering will earn 30 points per half hour;
    2. Sanitizing pianos will earn 30 points per half hour;
    3. Set up and striking concerts will earn 60 points half hour;
    4. Service to faculty members will earn 30 points per hour;
    5. Putting up posters for concerts and music events will earn 5 points per poster.
    6. Points for activities not mentioned will be decided at the discretion of the Service Coordinator
  5. Leadership positions in the Chapter shall begin each semester with the following amount of points:
    1. Members of the executive board and the Member Educator and Assistant Member Educator will begin with 120 points,
    2. Other MEC members, elected positions other than e-board or MEC position, and committee chairs will begin with 60 points
Section 3: Rules and Regulations
  1. Any Brother who has signed up and does not show up for a service activity without notifying the Service Coordinator 24 hours in advance via email or text message will be docked 100 points.
  2. Any Brother who has signed up and does not show up for a service activity without any notification to the Service Coordinator will be docked the greater amount of either 100 points or the number of points they would have received during the activity.
  3. Any Brother signed up within one week of an event date and cannot attend must find another brother to attend the event for them. They must then notify the Service Coordinator within 48 hours of the event via email or text.
  4. All decisions are at the discretion of the Service Coordinator. All disputes may be settled in Brotherhood Court.
