Why It’s Important

One of the most essential factors determining the continued success of a colony is recruiting other members. Mu Beta Psi requires at least fifteen (15) interested individuals in order to form a colony. By recruiting others, you ensure that not only will you have required numbers, but that you will also have a variety of seniors, juniors, and sophomores to ensure the continued success of an approved chapter.

How to Recruit

There’s no one set way to recruit others into your group. In Mu Beta Psi, our different Chapters experiment with what works best for them. It could be anything from a formal meeting to a karaoke night. The purpose of these “recruitment drives” is to stimulate interest, and so that your group can judge the personalities of prospective members and determine if it’s a harmonious fit. Feel free to be creative, as long as it’s in a respectful environment (e.g.: no keg parties, but maybe a group hangout at a fast food place).

If you need more suggestions, the National Vice President of Expansion is also available to help.

Evaluating Recruits

While numbers are an important part of the process, the quality of the petitioning body is just as important. To ensure that you’ve got the best possible group of people, try considering the following characteristics:

  • Positive Attitude
  • Leadership
  • Dedication to Service
  • Work Ethic
  • Harmony with Other Members

As you can see, musical talent is not a requirement. We want quality people that are devoted to service.
